The "Friendship Award" Gala Dinner celebrated the Council's efforts over a period of five years to promote trade and investment between the U.S. and Panama, with the goal of a stronger bi-national relationship. For half a decade a large group from both nations have gathered in Washington, D.C. to witness the presentation of the "Friendship Award" to individuals from the both public and private sector who have made a difference in U.S.-Panama relations. According to tradition on October 15th US-Panama Business Council presented a small token of appreciation to a few who had worked diligently in this same pursuit for many more years than even the Business Council has existed.

All those who participated in the activities that comprised Panama Week that culminated in the "Friendship Award" Gala on October 15th, 1999, had the vision to bring their thoughts, and even concerns, to the forum and engage in meaningful dialogue. The Council recognizes and applauds the efforts of all those others, who were not recipients of the "Friendship Award," but who had contributed over the years to building a strong foundation on which the pillars of a new and enlightened relationship between our two nations can stand high and strong, worthy of the new Millennium.
